Neglect

Pet owners are often misinformed or not informed at all as to how to properly care for their pets between grooming. Often pets are being neglected without the owner even knowing. Most owners do not inspect their pet from head to toe, but when being professionally groomed, we are able to do so.

If you ever have questions about your pets grooming needs, we are always here to help.

  • Nails

If nails are left unattended, they can grow long, not allowing for your pets weight to be properly distributed. This can cause long term affects such as arthritis. They may also get stuck, or even break off which can be very painful. Every pet is different in how often they need trimming. This can depend on how much exercise the get on hard surfaces such as concrete. (Nails should be clipped more frequently during winter months for this reason). Dew claws never reach the surface, so they often need more trimming, failure to do so may lead to the nail growing into the thumb pad which can lead to infection.

  • Knots, tangles and matting

When a pet has not been brushed properly it will start to tangle and knot up. If these knots are left unattended to, they will grow bigger and bigger. If left unattended, the pet will become extremly matted. Matting can become heavy and pull on the skin causing irritation and bruising. If the mats become wet, this may cause bactiria growth and lead to infections. There is no option but to clip to matted coat away from the skin. This may bring to surface the irritations that have been kept unvisable.
