FAQ

Do you use sedation?

Absolutely not! It is illegal for groomers to sedate animals. We do not supply sedation or accept animals that have been sedated. If you feel your requires sedation, it should be monitored by a veterinarian.

Do you use heated dryers?

Your pets safety is always a concern at Grooming with Finesse. Most of the drying process is done by hand and none of the cage dryers are heated.

What do you do with my pet when it is finished its makeover session?

Many pets find grooming to be stressful. After a dog has finished its makeover, we allow him to rest about the shop while he waits for the owner to pick up, providing he is not aggressive with other animals or prone to marking! We prefer to do this with dogs, so they can feel comfortable.

When cats are done we call the owner for pick up, and put him in a quiet area of the salon

Why should my pet be groomed in the winter?

Many people believe keeping more hair in the winter months, will keep their pet warmer than a short coat. This is   a common misconception. Long coats are harder to maintain, especially when they get wet from the snow. A matted coat takes much longer to dry then one that is tangle free. Matting occurs at the dog's skin and retains moisture and cause bacteria growth, causing sore skin and infections.  A shorter coat that is mat free is actually warmer for the dog than a long coat that is matted.

Why is my dog so tired after grooming?

When a pet is at the spa, they are taken from their every day routing, this can be very exciting for some pets or stressful for others. Some will enjoy playing with other pets. Often they will be worn out by these emotions and need a nap when they return home!

When should I start getting my puppy groomed?

The most influential time in a puppy's life is the first three to four months. Once your puppy has received its vaccinations and your vet advices it safe to come in contact with other pets, we recommend the first visit. Their experience during this time will shape their behaviour for the rest of their lives. It is critical the first association with a groomer be a positive one. The more frequently they experience a positive grooming session, the more comfortable they will become with the process, saving them years of anxiety and stress every time they visit the groomer. A simple bath and a light trim is the perfect introduction to the grooming process.

How often can my pet be bathed?

Pet products have come a long way. Pets are part of the family and indoors more now than ever, so we want them fresh all the time! For this reason products have changed and frequent bathing is no longer a concern to skin and coat, as long as quality products are being used and rinsed properly.
